DUBAI: Quetta Gladiators could not set a big target for Peshawar Zalmi in the first qualifying final of the first Pakistan Super League here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Sent into bat, Quetta Gladiators did not make a good start , losing their openers Ahmed Shehzad and Bismillah Khan at a mere 11 but Kevin Pietersen and Kumar Sangakkara rescued the team with a brilloiant third wicket partnership of 79 runs.
Pietersen scored a fine 53 off 38 balls with five fours and two sixes while Sangakkara made 37 off 29 balls with six boundaries.
Then three wickets fell in a quick succession and Quetta Gladiators were 106 for five in 14.1 overs. Captain Sarfraz had gone for a duck.
Later, Mohammad Nawaz played a brisk innings of 20 off 18 balls with two towering sixes and a four before being dismissed at the score of 122.
But the remaining batsmen could not maintain the run rate and were getting out at regular intervals and were all out for 133 in 19.3 overs.
Left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz captured three wickets for 17 runs while right-arm fast bowler Shaun Tait bagged two for 23 for Peshawar Zalmi.
