KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has paid rich tributes to late Begum Nusrat Bhutto on her 87th Birth anniversary being celebrated on March 23 by the PPP and its workers all over the country.
According to a statement issued here, the PPP Chairman said that Begum Nusrat Bhutto fought valiantly against the dictatorship and braved torture, solitary confinements eventually sacrificing her family for the cause of the downtrodden masses of the country.
She had the honor to organize first Women Wing of any political party in Pakistan and made the PPP Women Wing into a vibrant sister organization within a short period.
He said that Begum Nusrat Bhutto loved the Jiyalas like her own children and Jiyalas have still not forgotten her affection for them as she stood with them during hard times and led them courageously. Her role as a woman, a wife and a mother had been of an exceptional role-model, as true democrats still regard her as ‘Mother of Democracy’.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari further said that his grand-mother led the struggle for restoration of democracy from the front and fought fearlessly against the dictatorial forces despite being ruthlessly tortured and imprisoned.
“The way she led the democratic forces following the martyrdom of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto by the dictatorial regime, Begum Nusrat Bhutto shall always remain a tall icon of leadership, courage and gallantry and shall continue to inspire the democratic people of Pakistan in future also,” he said.
The PPP Chairman said that his party is proud of its ‘unmatched’ leadership in the past and would carry forward their legacy to achieve their mission to accomplish their dreams of a great nation.
