LAHORE: Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq has said legislation regarding pre-marriage blood test of couples is the need of the hour for controlling spread of blood diseases like thalassemia and hemophilia.
He said this while addressing a seminar on the World Hemophilia Day at Sundas Foundation here on Sunday.
Besides, Patron in Chief of Sundas Foundation and renowned columnist Mannu Bhai, President Sundas Foundation Yasin Khan, Administrator Jamia Ashrafia, Hafiz Asad Ubaid and a lot of patient children and their parents attended the seminar.
The experts informed that hemophilia was a genetic and congenital disease which is caused by insufficient production of white cells in the blood.
Khawaja Salman Rafiq said a mass awareness campaign would be helpful in overcoming the disease.
He said that government was paying special attention to the disease prevention programme, however, the civil society NGOs and philanthropists should come forward to play their role in this noble mission.
Salman Rafiq also appreciated the role of media in creating awareness about the prevention of diseases.
Patron in Chief of Sundas Foundation Mannu Bhai said that serving the ailing humanity was greatest worship.
Mannu Bhai also appreciated the efforts and steps taken by the Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif for the upgradation of health sector in the province.
