This article will help you locate the current IP address of your NETGEAR home router.
  • By default, your NETGEAR home router IP address should be assigned as either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.
  • You should also be able to access your router by typing in http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com into your web browser address bar.
  • If you are encountering an error such as Page cannot be displayed or This webpage is not available, your IP address may have been changed.
Note: Make sure that the computer you are using is connected wired or wirelessly to the router. The computer that you will be using must be getting its IP address from the router automatically. If your computer is using a static IP, you will need to configure it to get its IP address automatically.

To locate the current IP address of your NETGEAR home router, choose the correct option below based on your operating system:
Command Prompt Method (applicable on Windows-based computers only)
  1. Click on the Start button or Start menu and choose All Programs.
  2. Click on Accessories and then Command Prompt.
    Note: If you are using a Windows 8 computer, swipe up from the bottom to show the Apps screen or click on the down arrow icon at the bottom of the screen. Now that you're on the Apps screen, swipe or scroll to the right and locate the Windows System section heading. UnderWindows System, click Command Prompt.
  3. Type in ipconfig and press the Enter or Return key.
  4. Locate the Default Gateway. The numerical value to the right is the IP address of your router.

Mac OS X Terminal Method
  1. Launch the Terminal located in /Applications/Utilities/
  2. Type the following command: ifconfig |grep inet
  3. The requested information will show up look similar to this:
    inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128
    inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1
    inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000
    inet6 fe80::fa1e:dfff:feea:d544%en1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5
    inet 192.168.0.100 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255
  4. Your router IP address is usually the next to last entry of broadcast and in the example, it is 192.168.0.255.
  5. The other command line option you can use is: ifconfig getifaddr en1

    Note: This will show your en1 (usually wireless) IP address. You can change en1 to en0 on the command line to show your wired/Ethernet IP address.
