ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has taken several steps for promotion of local film industry, an official source told APP on Sunday.
He said that swift process of registration as feature film producers has been introduced in Central Board of Film Censor (CBFC) to facilitate and encourage the local film industry.
He said it will be ensured after omission of the clause 5 on Affidavit Form B, prescribed under Rule 10 of the Censorship of Film Rules 1980, the foreign films containing Pakistani artists in leading roles have been allowed for exhibition into the country.
He said after 18th Constitutional Amendment in 2010, the CBFC has been mandated to function at Federal level for censorship and regulating the exhibition of cinematographic films under the Motion Pictures Ordinance 1979 for territories of Federal Administrative Areas, including KPK and Balochistan whereas legislation work for setting up of their own Censor Boards has not been completed so far.
He said a proposal for waiving off the censorship fee related to the local films is under consideration.
The Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage in collaboration with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is providing a facility and platform to all the local film producers for participation in the International Film Festivals.
National Film Awards to recognize and appreciate the efforts of people associated with the film industry and to promote the local film industry is under consideration, he said.
The cinema owners have been convinced to promote local films against imported films by giving priority to exhibit local films in the cinemas.
The Federal Government is working on Federal Government Artistes Welfare Fund through a Steering Committee reconstituted by the Cabinet Secretariat and the fund has been created by the Prime Minister with seed money of Rs. 200 million.
The funds provided by the Prime Minister will be allocated as Endowment Fund and the three fourth of the money will be placedunder fixed deposit and the earned interest will be allocated for the financial assistance to the artists. (APP)
