Geo TV’s new drama serial Is Khamoshi Ka Matlab, which revolves around the lives of multiple women, is a simple reflection of everyday life. While most of these women are housewives - coming from modest backgrounds - one woman (played by Yasra Rizvi) falls in different realm altogether. She lives by herself and is a poet as well as a pianist.
“My character in Is Khamoshi Ka Matlab is on an independent track of its own and it’s the story of a woman who has been in love with a man (Azfar Ali) for a long time and he just doesn’t want to commit to her,” Rizvi stated in a recent interview with Instep. “It’s a story of a long, stretched-out love affair which has caused this woman to question a lot of things in life and question the authenticity of human emotion,” she maintained while elaborating on the character she is playing.
Commenting on women’s portrayal on television these days, she said, “I represent the urban woman in it and that’s definitely nice to represent since the view of women has become so myopic on television. The character that I am playing, maybe a minority, but it is still a character from our audience base and deserves space on our airwaves.”
